We were invited to send a small group of children to The Nottingham Girl’s High School recently. They wanted to introduce 7 schools to their new performing arts center – “The Space”. The day was centered around the technology and engineering involved behind the scenes of a theatre.
42 children took part in the day, and were all able to see first hand how crucial lighting, sound and production are to a theatre performance. Phil Smith, an expert in the field, lead a session on this. In the afternoon, the children were then able to use this knowledge when designing and building their own theatres.
The Outreach Team involved were thoroughly impressed with the creative and technical skills shown throughout the day. Well done to everyone who took part. The children reported that they learned many new skills and felt that they’d been challenged, which made their success even more rewarding.
