As the first half term of the school year comes to a close, it is good to take some time to look back and reflect on the events that have taken place.
The highlight had to be Blessed Robert Widmerpool’ s 60th Diamond Jubilee Celebrations. Bishop Patrick joined us to celebrate mass which was a special and memorable occasion. The whole school definitely raised the roof with their joyful singing voices! Bishop Patrick commented on the way that the children really sung from their hearts. It was lovely to see so many past pupils, staff members, parents and friends of BRW. We all enjoyed reminiscing and sharing special memories over the old photographs with coffee and cake. The surprise video with special drone-filmed aerial shots topped off the celebrations. A big thanks to Tom who helped us to create such a wonderful memory. Thank you to all those who came, it truly was a wonderful celebration.
At the end of the day the whole school gathered together in the playground to let off the BRW balloons and sing happy birthday to the school. On each balloon, we tied a scroll spreading our jubilee message far and wide. If you happen to find a balloon, please get in touch! Let’s see how far our jubilation has spread!
The whole school turned out with energy and enthusiasm on Friday 29th September for The Building Hope Academy Sponsored 5k walk to raise funds to build a school in Bunkpurugu, Ghana. Our Foundation Stage and KS1 children did not let the rain and mud hamper their efforts when they commenced the challenge in the morning. They managed to walk 3 laps of the playground and field in the pouring rain with smiles on their faces!
KS2 walked with speed and determination in the afternoon covering 3600m. Some children even managed to run the whole distance! It was fantastic to see the parents out after school to finish off the last lap to make up the total 5k distance; it really was a joint effort. Well done to all those pupils and parents who took part. We have raised over £1000 so far which is an amazing effort! Thank you for your continued and generous support for our Building Hope project.
Congratulations to BRW’s Eco Warriors who have ensured the school passed a rigorous assessment which allows us to maintain the prestigious Green Flag Award. We passed with flying colours thanks to the team’s efforts and determination. The Eco Assessor commented on how aware, passionate and knowledgeable the children of BRW were. The team worked incredibly hard to ensure the school met all criteria. Well done to all the team, your hard work has paid off.
I had the pleasure of joining Coach Kidger and the football team at the Ratcliffe College Football Competition last month where we came home with a Festival Trophy for winning our group. It was a fantastic day and the team played well together. The supporting parents and families were amazing and helped to keep the team’s spirits high. I was so proud of the way the whole team represented our school with determination and positivity. Keep up the hard work and training as we start the match season.
I hope that you all have an enjoyable week off and I look forward to seeing you back at school after the break, ready and raring to start another fun-filled half term.
