The Never-ending Tunnel

Year 5, you’ve been working so hard on your setting description and now I’d like you to describe this picture!

Over half term, think about how the story might continue, with a particular emphasis on the setting- remember show not tell! Use adjectives, similes and Alan Peat sentences. Challenge yourself to use a complex sentence and parenthesis (power diamonds for the best).

Story starter!

Motionless, she stood gazing down the never-ending tunnel. The track extended as far as the eye could see, encased by walls of brightest green. The trees that lined the way grew tall, reaching up and over, interlocking their spindly branches like fingers trapping whoever dared to walk this treacherous route. It was like looking down nature’s kaleidoscope.

Where did the path lead? She had dreamt of this moment, but in her dream she couldn’t remember what happened next.

There was only one way to find out; she bravely took a step forward…

  1. Through the never ending tunnel was luscious, emerald green grass which glistened when the blazing hot sun hit it. What could this mysterious tunnel (enveloped in a blanket of fresh, blooming grass) lead to? There was only one way to find out! The little girl bravely took a step forward when she touched the ground her heart and stomach circled in a dance of enigma as her heart was beating as fast as a rapid tiger running. The more times the girl walked forward, the more she figured out this concealed, perplexing puzzle.

  3. The emerald green grass stretched out as if saying “Doom”. Bravely,boldly, she closed her delicate eyes which had a sense of fear and mischief. Suddenly the curvy path echoed whispers of never-ending lies , as she slowly steeped in. What, were would it lead her…
    Aaaaaaaaaaaahh, the scream of death and murder followed her down.

    • The prickly bushes followed her through the tunnel and she kept hearing creepy voices from the thick and rough vines as she was going aroun and round in circles and felt like she had been in this tuner for 3 years sa she fell down a hole of never n ding misery and doom and
      she felt like she was being hunted.

  4. As she took this step she was so excited. She he knew the more further she would go in, the more amazing and extraordinary things and creatures
    she would see. She kept going further and saw emarld, lush leaves. Butterflys enveloped around her and her stomach and heart started to dance in astonishment as she enthusiastically strided along the freash, tender grass. She walked along this outstanding path for miles but soon she realised that there was no end to this tunnel!

And stumbled, fearlessly into the grassy tunnel.I couldn’t thinking about were it will lead me to.Suddenly, i flash of light crossed through my eyes, without a doubt flowers popped out of nowhere. I felt nervous but adored at the same time, I didn’t want this to end it was so magical. Then a path of golden leaves led me to something but I didn’t know what so I just followed it. After hours and hours of travelling I finally made to the end and what I saw was mind-blowing it was as shiny as ever I wasn’t sure of whart it actually was but someday I will….

  6. As i trailed into this mysterious place all i saw was emerald green grass branches as brown as the touch of a bear had just swiped my my whole body. This never ending tunnel, i did not know where it would lead me to. Should i go in? what will happen? would i be done?

  7. As the serpentine tunnel lay before me, it was going to be a treacherous journey through the unknown. As I trundled along I was conscious of my surroundings and inscribed them in my mind. I perceived that there were viridescent leaves and branches reaching out like witch’s fingers. This was another chapter in my life the Never-Ending tunnel.
    Will I ever get out???

  8. As the never ending tunnel of blossoming emerald green grass continued to put those who stepped on it in awe, it made people stop and stars at its mesmerising view. Thousands of vines twisted around the plants holding them close with no chance of escape! Will it stay this spectacular forever?

  9. As I entered the luminous green tunnel, my body felt a shock like lightning. Soon after my heart and stomach danced in a circle of consternation as I stumbled through the tunnel exploring it. The track of the tunnel was rusty like a wood. Suddenly there were two turns so I decided to go with the right one. Whilst I wandered through the tunnel my eyes began to fill with darkness. that second eyes began to appear despite that I fell with dizziness my mind was of questions. like what will happen to me? where does the tunnel lead? would I go home ever again ?…

  10. further among the canopy of trees, a hidden tunnel, that has never been found before. what could be out there? i a caught a glimpse of fear that had run over me. i took a step and then sounds came that echoed through the tunnel. wondering how this had come out of thin air. am i dreaming? am i cursed? what could happen??

  11. as i got further and further into the woods. i had caught a glimpse of excitement and fear. i took a step forward and that step i had taken must have caught a mysteroius sight, and it sure did. a hidden tunnel! i began to panic and shutter. it was a perplexing sight.terrifying but fascinating. full of questions in my head i said to myself, “what could be out there? is it going to be the end of me?

    • Some brilliant vocabulary used Neha, I love perplexing. Check your capital letters throughout this and your punctuation in the first line… does it need a full stop or a comma?

  13. As she gazed through the emerald green tunnel she had been wondering about what is down this tunnel. As she took one small step into the jungle of leaves the mysterious leaves twisted and turned as if they were dancing all around her.

As i pioneered through the relentless ,emerald,lush hazardous passage.Some ,may ponder on how this establishment is so elegant and alluring,others will face an endless supply of claustrophobia.As i (and many others ) was feeling an enveloping blanket of agitation and claustrophobia.I assumed an extraordinary beast would overcome my consciousness and leave me in a million petite,minuscule,microscopic pieces,what happened was much worse…Was I still alive ? Would anyone hear my tongue tied calls?Will anyone remember me ?It was time for me to accept my fate ,but what was it …

  15. Each step forward she made her body circled with fear, excitement, wonder. She knew the more steps she took the more braver she would have to become. The further along the tunnel the more narrower it became, the bright emerald green walls began to change colour, gradually becoming darker and darker and the interlocking vines became harder and harder to squeeze between, like a fly trying to escape a spiders web. Suddenly in the distance she could see a glistening glow lighting up the tunnel so she could make her way forward. The closer she got the brighter the light shone like a diamond twinkling in the glistening sun light. Was this the end? had I finally reached the end of the tunnel?…

  16. As the everlasting branches wrapped around the emerald green leaves, they created a spectacular sight to see. Should anyone dare to enter? If they did, where will it take them? No one knows.

    The more she stared, the more she anticipated to see what lied right behind the rounded corner ahead of her. In a slow pass she come closer to the corner where she didn`t know what was ahead of her…

The silver smooth metal trail seemed to go on forever and any human who would dare step into this everlasting tunnel would have to be packed and ready for a real adventure. How long will they be in there? When does it end?

Thoughts gathered in her mind like an ocean of anxiety as she wondered where this path would lead her.When would it end?Where would it lead?And could she ever find home again.Every instinct in her body urged her to go back but her heart told her to carry on trudging through this confusing tunnel of beauty ,so she continued to stumble through the everlasting tunnel with a hope to find the end

  20. The emerald moss enveloped the surroundings as far as the eye could see. Trees, branches, greenery, which one was covering the most of the climate. The shiny stones crashed in between the smooth silver trail. Some would say it’s a never ending place, others say it’s a maze in silver metal to guide your direction. If being in their was an adventure, would they get out? Or is it never ending?

  22. As I scambled through the emerald,perplexing hole like a WW1 soldier in the Somme,squirmy creature’s smoother my body.(Beetle Blades).Each leap is a risk to dodge the pulsing insects that splode a glooming sludge.Razor-toothed spikes pierce your untreated skin like crop harvesters.
    Will I escape this trechorous, hazy maze?
    Or will I not…

The girl knew it was mysterious but that only made her more encouraged to find where it could lead.Thoughts swept over her mind like an ocean of anxiety as she wondered if she would ever find home again.As she wandered through the luscious emerald branches , every instinct in her body told her to tun back.Entranced by the tunnels beauty, she struggled through the twisted branches that enveloped all around her not even caring to look back.would she find home?would she find comfort?would she find the end?

  24. It was time, to go down the malachite-colored, jade tunnel which seemingly looks like it goes on and on and on. I was thinking, “how did mother nature create something this alluring and glamorous?”, the tracks that go on have been trampled by shamrock green grass, so aesthetic yet so mind-confusing it looks like lacrymal essence is pouring out of its compelling, hazel branches. Will I find something abnormal enemies or items? We’ll have to take an expedition and see.

As i imagined me stumbling in to this vast tunnel, i was also suspicious about what was around the corner of the green covered tunnel.As the brown like chocolate branch waved in the wind i heard something it was like a growl i was thinking to myself, what is behind the corner? Is it a person,an animal? i was so suspicious so their was only one way to find out, i walked slowly like a sloth. my heart and stomach circled each other in a dance of fear!

  27. She walked slowly and cautiously. A soft, spongy carpet of leaves continued under the virescent canopy. The trees stood still as tall as skyscrapers. The branches knitted together and tried to block the pure sky. The tree leaves swayed in the wind, like a thousand hands waving her in a different direction. The sunlight sneaked through the thick tree leaves, it illuminated the green background. From everywhere came the hums and chirps of the insects, the song of birds. After hours of walking, she was panting for breath, sweat appeared on her face, her stomach was growling, as darkness set in, she kept looking at the time, her face looked pinched, she did not know how much further she had to go. She was utterly confused; it was like trying to find a needle in haystack. She speeded up her pace. She heard a strange noise from far away. The sound was faintly audible. Her hand started shaking, she froze instantly on the spot where she stood, she did not know what could be there, but she searched frantically and determinedly. Stumbling, she almost tripped over her own feet. She quickly discovered…just like in her dream, her eyes became wide open, but where is the exit hidden?

  28. The jade green tunnel grows deep brown branches.Sunlight glistens through the petite leaves. A rail runs through the never ending tunnel.The people who enter yearn to see the sunlight once again.When it rains you can hear the soothing sound of rain pattering

  29. the tunnel is like a maze of wonder to explore and lots to see seek the emrald green treasure put on show for us to see birds flying into bright coulered grass it is like i have been swiped in another place its a aquamarine of the unknown.

  31. She stared at the emerald, lush grass, questions whizzed through her mind, was it the right choice to follow the path of green? Her eyes sealed shut for a moment, thinking…her heart and mind raced in a dance of fear as her unsteady feet shuffled onto the path of fortune and destiny.
