WELCOME TO THE SUMMER TERM in YEAR 3
Our Topic continues the Year of
We now discover and investigate all about Roman Britain; How the Romans invaded Britain, how they settled and what legacy they left.
At the heart of our journey in faith this term will be Serving – Pentecost. In this theme the children learn about the gift of the Holy Spirit and serving as a way of life. The children will deepen their knowledge of the power and energy of the Holy Spirit.
We will also continue to explore the Mysteries of the Rosary.
Come and See
Topics this term:
We will be examining and analysing many different types of texts in English, and using good models of writing as well as video and poetry to inspire us to create our own. We are going to be reading some exciting stories this term!
We will reinforce and extend our Maths work through measurement, data, problem solving, fractions, calculations, shape & angles and also Roman numerals! There’s going to be a lot more practice of number bonds and multiplication facts in order to improve fluency.
Year 3 children must know their 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 8x and 10x by the end of the year. In Science we will study Forces and States of Matter, through The Water Cycle.
In Computing we will use programming skills to create work related to our topic including programming some Lego models.
In P.E. the children will continue their gymnastic lessons but will also begin Dance lessons with Mrs Bathgate. We will also prepare for Sports day through Athletics and plan to learn some Roman army drills – which will also incorporate some of our music in aiding our visualisation of an invading army!
We will also continue to build up a bank of basic French phrases, such as expressing how we feel, introducing ourselves and naming colour as well as improving in our fluency. In our Art sessions, Miss Ferrara is giving the children the opportunity to create mosaics and explore the wonderful work of the Spanish artist and architect, Antoni Gaudi.
In Geography we will deepen our understanding of regions of the UK through enquiry based lessons.
If you have any spare time and feel you could offer some specialist skills to enhance our learning this term, maybe you have some woodwork skills, are an expert baker or would be able to chat to the children about your job. I’d love to hear from you!
How you can help
There is reading, spellings and maths homework every week. Please support your child in practising multiplication facts and number bonds daily. There could be follow-up research in other areas if appropriate.
Please check your child has the homework sheet on a Thursday. If the homework is lost, there are always extra in the door holder until the following week. Encourage your child to read regularly and explain what they understand from the text, especially unfamiliar words.
Please make sure your child has their P.E. kit (black shorts, white tee-shirt and trainers or plimsolls) in school on Mondays. PE kit should stay in school all week. Only to go home to be washed at the weekend. Please remove earrings on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays before coming to school.
Please check the Y3 Web page for updates and recommended websites. Support your child in blogging and posting comments, please ensure they only use their first name and their school email address.
A fantastic inspiring term to look forward to! If you have any queries please feel free to ask. Thank you for your continued support,

MATHS Homework Mathletics
All children will have individual maths homework allocated to them on this website. They’ve been given their password & it should be stuck in their Reading diary. Please let me know if access is a problem.
http://www.oxfordowl.co.uk You also have access to the free ebooks on this site – it also works on iPads too! Children will have the login and password stuck in their Reading diaries. It is really important that children read daily and demonstrate a good comprehension of the texts.
All children have their login details – same as last year.

A lovely strange game that requires some ‘out of the box’ and creative thinking to move things along. Also tests areas of English, Maths and Science.
