BRW had something extremely exciting happen today… Sherwood Forest have kindly donated an oak tree to our school for the development of our Forest School area!
Sarah, who looks after the nursery at Sherwood Forest, came to plant our oak tree with us. She told us some interesting facts about oak trees and the Major Oak at Sherwood Forest. Did you know… Our oak tree is 10 years old and they can live for 1,000 years?
The Major Oak is around 800 years old, so it needs some supports to help it stand up properly.
Sarah planted a very big hole and the Eco Warriors had to place the oak tree inside it. Carefully, we placed the soil around the roots to ensure it was anchored into the ground. Everyone was given a copper coin and had to place it in the roots and make a wish. A tree blessing charm was then read and a ribbon was tied around the tree as a symbol. We have created a wonderful symbol of hope in our school grounds, which will be a part of our school for many, many years to come.
“May you be blessed with the bursting of the Spirit of Life, replenished in the greening of that Spirit, and strengthened by its passionate flame. Bright Blessings on you my friend, Bright Blessings. ALL HAIL THE TREE!“
