Exploring Equivalent Fractions!

Year 5 have begun their new maths topic of Fractions this week. We have begun by learning what an equivalent fraction is and explored these using Numicon.

What is an equivalent fraction?

How do you find an equivalent fraction?

What is the same about the two fractions? What is different?

  1. I loved learning about fractions!
I learnt all about inequivalent fractions!
Inequivalent fractions is where you Multiply the numerator and denominator by the same number. Two fractions that are different but equivalent have, by definition, numerators and denominators that are multiples of each other. In other words, multiplying the numerator and denominator of a fraction by the same number will produce an equivalent fraction.

  2. I remember learning about equivalent fractions in Year 5.
Now in year 6 we have had these in tests and I am super confident I am glad I learnt about
    these in year 5.
