Reading Activities

Hi Year 5, I am really missing our reading lessons and our cosy reading! I have just finished the book Explorer by Katherine Rundell, which is all about four children who get lost in the Amazon jungle – I would really recommend this. I’m going to have a go at reading the next instalment of Brightstorm, which is called Darkwhispers. Do you have any book recommendations for me? What books have you been enjoying? Comment below!

I loved these words from the books I’ve been reading:

  • supple
  • grimacing
  • charred
  • furrowed
  • tendrils
  • grudgingly
  • brusquely
  • convalesce
  • indignantly
  • recoiled
  • inscrutable
  • shoal
  1. Can you define these words?
  2. Can you find synonyms?
  3. Can you use then in a sentence?

  2. I have read Percy Jackson and the last Olympian for the third time this week, I really enjoy them. The whole set is great i love the book so much they are written by Rick Riordan – they are adventure stories based on Greek myths in modern life. The main characters are Percy, Annabeth and Grover who show up in every book. My favourite character is Bianca and Thiala because they are very adventurous and brave.

    I looked up tendrils (noun)
1: a long, thin, leafless twining stem or extension with which some climbing plants attach themselves to a support.
2: something similarly long, thin, and twining, such as a lock of hair.
    synonym:twine
