Waste Week 2021

Did you know that the amount of edible food waste in the UK could fill eight Wembley Stadiums? Or that we throw away 20 million slices of bread EVERY DAY in the UK, which creates greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to over 140,000 cars every year?

It’s why we are tackling food waste this Waste Week (8-14th March), to help schools and families to reduce unnecessary food waste. At home, think about the food you waste and how you could reduce this. Below are some ideas.

Take a look at our assembly below to find out more about Waste Week 2021

Great Busta Bake Competition

This year you can enter the Great Busta Bake Competition by using food that would otherwise go to waste to create a delicious meal! You must take a picture of your meal and the recipe that goes along with it. Below are some ideas of food that we tend to throw away and what we could do with it instead.

  • Banana bread
  • Bread and butter pudding
  • Vegetable Lasagne
  • Apple crumble
  • Hot cross bun pudding
  • Chicken pie
  • Vegetable soup

Email your entries to admin@brw.nottingham.sch.uk or hand them to your teacher, who will pass it to me (Miss Andrew). I can’t wait to see the tasty meals you make from your leftovers and reduce your waste! Below is a poster with more details and some banana recipes you could use.
